Propelling efficiency in swimming

Propelling efficiency in swimming.

The fraction of the total mechanical power exerted by the swimmer that is converted into useful propulsive power (i.e. propelling efficiency) represents one of the most relevant parameters to swimming performance.

However, kinetic assessments are challenging to swimmers and coaches due to the environmental constraints imposed by the water, as well as the high cost of the equipment. Thus, the general aim of this investigation is to compare direct and indirect methods to assess the arm stroke propelling efficiency in swimming and to study the interplay between total power output, propelling efficiency and swimming speed in front crawl.
